Ministers from both Welsh and UK Governments will be appearing in Newport this Thursday at the 2024 Convention for the Western Gateway, presented by SSE Energy Solutions.
Rebecca Evans MS, Welsh Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, and Dame Nia Griffiths MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales, have both been announced on the lineup of the event. Both are due to give an address showing their support for the Western Gateway area and laying out how they will together show support for the ambitions of the partnership.
ITV Cymru correspondent, Carole Green, will be the Compere for the day helping guide the audience through a packed lineup of national and international business leaders and academics looking to address the problem of how you create economic growth sustainably?
The Convention will bring together UK and Welsh Governments to launch a “Plan for Sustainable Growth” for the area. With space for 700 attendees, the event will feature an exhibition and talks looking at how the area can lead the UK to build a future economy which can decarbonise, protect nature, drive investment, support innovation and connect communities.
Sarah Williams-Gardener, Chair of the Western Gateway, said: “It is great to have both Governments represented at our convention. This show of unity will help to give confidence to business to show that our area is ready to unite to lead growth and attract vital new opportunities.
“At the Western Gateway we are unlocking the power of partnership for a thriving future of growth. There are still a few tickets left. If you haven’t grabbed yours already, now is your time to do so before time is up.”
The Western Gateway is the Pan-regional Partnership for South Wales and Western England. The Partnership brings together 28 local authorities, universities and businesses from across the area to drive growth and create new opportunities.
