EY sponsors Western Gateway conference aiming to speed up the UK’s transition to net zero

Multinational professional services firm EY has been announced as a key sponsor for the Hydrogen Gateway conference – an event convening key players from the energy industry, including businesses and Government officials, in a bid to accelerate the UK’s transition to net zero.

South Wales and Western England are leading the new national conference in hopes of helping speed up the UK’s transition to using hydrogen and ultimately reaching Net Zero targets faster.

Hydrogen Gateway is being led by the Western Gateway Partnership, in partnership with Hydrogen South West, the South Wales Industrial Cluster and the GW4 Alliance.

Michelle T. Davies, EY Partner and Global Sustainability Legal Services Leader; comments: “An ambitious clean energy infrastructure programme will be vital if the UK is to reach its Net Zero targets and this will require extensive collaboration across the public and private sectors. Hydrogen Gateway offers the opportunity to convene leading figures from government and industry to discuss ways to accelerate our national energy transition, from identifying where regulation could be better aligned to asking how we can better mobilise private capital to fund clean energy innovation.”

Hydrogen Gateway is being held at the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport on 9th June 2023 and aims to bring together industry, businesses and Governments from across the UK to understand how they can work together to overcome current barriers to the net zero transition.

Katherine Bennett CBE, Chair of the Western Gateway Partnership, said: “In the Western Gateway, we are leading the development of Hydrogen across many of its potential uses through our cross-border Hydrogen Ecosystem. This conference will put Hydrogen in the national spotlight, bringing together decision makers from across the UK with those working on the frontline to bring us closer to reaching our collective Net Zero targets.

“The Western Gateway is bringing together business, research and local leaders to add £34bn to the economy by 2030 and reach Net Zero. I look forward to welcoming experts from around the union to our area to unlock this potential game-changing low carbon fuel for the UK and the world.”

Hydrogen Gateway promises to be a key event in the UK’s Net Zero calendar with an aim to showcase new technological solutions on a national stage. South Wales and Western England are home to a range of businesses, academics and local authorities who are pioneering the use of new technologies as a way of decarbonising sectors which currently rely heavily on fossil fuels.

This conference aims to provide the next step – driving forward collaboration and providing a platform for success to speed up the transition to Net Zero.
