Investment

The Western Gateway area (South Wales and Western England) has huge potential. With 14 of the 15 world’s largest aerospace manufacturers, Europe’s most advanced cyber cluster and companies working at the cutting edge of technology, the area punches above its weight. Our partnership wants to champion these strengths to bridge investment gaps with the rest of the UK.

Drive investment

The Western Gateway is already a global gateway. Home to two deep seaports and two airports that provide direct access to international markets alongside the world-leading companies, we have much we can offer the global economy.

Building on evidence from government and our partners, we are developing a coordinated approach to promoting our shared sectoral strengths and assets to key international markets.

Current situation

Currently London receives nearly half of the total investment that goes into UK companies from other countries at 43%.  Wales on the other hand receives only 2.9% whilst the South West of England receives 5%.  Despite bring in more investment than the rest of Wales and the South West of England put together, the Western Gateway still needs to attract a further £56bn to reach the UK average.

We believe we have the potential to channel more investment into our innovative communities and create new opportunities for the UK economy to grow.

The Western Gateway is carrying out new research to understand where these investment gaps are, and which are most pressing. We want to understand how we can bridge these gaps to help our communities to achieve their potential.

Work with us to bridge these gaps and help our communities to achieve their potential.  Read our recent brief to hear about the research so far and the organisation’s already working to champion investment in the West and Wales.
