The Western Gateway has all the elements needed to become a world-leading green energy cluster. We have the expertise and resources needed to deliver exciting new types of energy for our area including hydrogen, tidal and fusion.

Western Gateway has always been a powerhouse of innovation.  We are an international leader in ground-breaking technology, from AI and 5G to quantum computing and robotics.  We are bringing together partners to build on this strength.

The Western Gateway was originally formed to help see how our communities can be connected through better public transport; that hasn't changed. In March 2023 we launched our ambitious Rail Vision 2050, which outlines the future of rail across South Wales and Western England.

The Western Gateway area (South Wales and Western England) has huge potential. With 14 of the 15 world’s largest aerospace manufacturers, Europe’s most advanced cyber cluster and companies working at the cutting edge of technology, the area punches above its weight. Our partnership wants to champion these strengths to bridge investment gaps with the rest of the UK.
