The UK’s Net Zero Review chair to speak at Western Gateway Net Zero Conference

The UK’s Chair of the Net Zero Review, The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP, is among a series of high-profile speakers that have been announced to be taking part in a national Net Zero conference taking place in Newport in June.

Other speakers include representatives from UK and Welsh Government, RWE, EDF, Airbus and the UK Infrastructure Bank.

Hydrogen Gateway is being held at the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport on 9th June 2023 and aims to bring together industry, businesses and Governments from across the UK to understand how they can work together to drive investment in green energy to speed the nation’s transition to Net Zero.

The Western Gateway is the Pan-Regional Partnership for South Wales and Western England which reaches from Swansea to Swindon. Bringing together business, research and local leaders to work together to add an extra £34bn to the economy by 2030 and reach Net Zero.

Last year the UK Government confirmed that Hydrogen is a key part of its plans to reach Net Zero, with aims to increase production to 10GW by 2030 and the announcement of a new national Hydrogen Champion.

The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore MP says: “I am delighted to be speaking at the Hydrogen Gateway conference which promises to be a key event in the UK’s Net Zero calendar – driving forward collaboration and providing a platform for success to speed up transition to a Net Zero economy.”

“Last year the UK Government confirmed that Hydrogen is a key part of its plans to reach Net Zero, with aims to increase production to 10GW by 2030 and the announcement of a new national Hydrogen Champion. The Western Gateway has nationally significant strengths in hydrogen, from the South Wales Industrial Cluster to the hydrogen hub in Swindon, and I’m delighted to support their work to power the UK’s Net Zero economy.”

Katherine Bennett CBE, Chair of the Western Gateway Partnership, said: “We are incredibly excited to announce an impressive line-up of speakers for the Hydrogen Gateway conference. I look forward to welcoming experts from our area to unlock the potentials of hydrogen and make steps towards creating a greener, fairer future for all.

“The Western Gateway has all the elements needed to become a world-leading green energy powerhouse and by capitalising on these strengths, we have an opportunity to lead on delivering new clean and renewable energy solutions to decarbonise our economy.”

This conference will put Hydrogen in the national spotlight, bringing together decision makers from across the UK with those working on the frontline to bring us closer to reaching our collective Net Zero targets.

Hydrogen Gateway is being led by the Western Gateway Partnership in partnership with Hydrogen South West, the South Wales Industrial Cluster and the GW4 Alliance.
